Stream & Recording Guide — Protect Your Wins
Your recording is your receipt. On Settl, evidence decides disputes — and the player with a VOD or capture wins the argument before it starts. Two minutes of setup covers you forever.
Play & Record (iOS app) — one-tap capture
In the Settl app, tap Play & Record on your match page before you play. It's a capture action, always available, and always attaches privately as evidence — using it doesn't publish anything on its own.
Settl Streaming is a separate choice you make when you post or accept a match — it decides what happens to whatever Play & Record captures. Leave it off (the default) and your recording stays private, dispute-only evidence, purged after the usual retention window. Choose it, and your Play & Record capture instead publishes as a public replay once the match settles — visible to anyone, not just your opponent. Choosing Settl Streaming is your consent to publish; your opponent isn't recorded unless they separately record or stream too.
Streaming on Twitch — turn on VODs (they're off by default!)
Twitch does not save your broadcasts unless you tell it to. If you stream a match and lose a dispute because the VOD doesn't exist, this is why. One-time fix:
- Twitch → Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream
- Under "VOD Settings," turn on "Store past broadcasts"
- Past broadcasts are kept 7 days (60 for Affiliate/Partner/Prime) — always longer than any Settl dispute window
Settl auto-detects your live stream on streamer-of-record matches and can attach the VOD as evidence automatically.
Streaming on Kick
Kick keeps VODs on your channel automatically. Kick has no VOD API yet, so VOD evidence is manual: open your channel → Videos → copy the VOD link → paste it in the dispute/evidence field. Same protection, one extra click.
Xbox — record without streaming
- Hold the Xbox button on your controller → "Record what happened" captures the last 30 seconds up to a few minutes; start a longer manual recording from the capture menu.
- After a match ends: capture the final scoreboard with both gamertags visible.
- Clips: Xbox button → Capture & share → Recent captures → share or upload. Settl evidence: upload the file or link a shared clip.
PlayStation 5 — record without streaming
- Press the Create button → "Save Recent Gameplay" — the PS5 is always buffering; you can save up to the last 60 minutes after the fact.
- Or Create → "Start New Recording" before the match.
- Captures live in the Media Gallery; share to your phone via the PS App or upload directly.
PC — simplest options
- OBS Studio (free): record locally while you play; also how you stream to Twitch/Kick.
- Windows Game Bar: Win+G → record. Zero setup.
- NVIDIA: Instant Replay saves the recent past on hotkey.
What makes evidence good
Whatever you record, the clip must show:
- The full final scoreboard — not a corner of it
- Both gamertags, readable — a score without names proves nothing
- Enough context — game clock/timestamps beat a single frozen frame; video beats screenshots
- For solo challenges: your verification code (SETTL-XXXX) displayed as instructed
And the habits that win disputes:
- Record every money match. Storage is free; disputes aren't fun.
- Keep evidence 48 hours after settlement, even when you won.
- If something went wrong mid-match (lag, rule break), capture it then and exit immediately if you intend to dispute — playing on waives most claims (see Match Rules).
- Post match agreements in Settl match chat, not console messages — off-platform conversations aren't evidence.
